The Old Ways
The people in and around the Red Forest — now more commonly referred to as Bloodmoor — has always been… conservative in a way. While socially they might move with the times, time and time again it has proven it's really hard to stop them from worshiping the Old Ways.
It used to have another name but out of fear for giving it strength, the kingdom saw fir to eradicate their name from all documents and all public discourse — basically making sure they only talk about it openly among themselves. It got a lot harder to remove and now it's sort of tolerated. It's frowned upon from up high but among the commoners it's ebbing back and forth in popularity.
Rites
People taking part of the Old Ways wear a mask made from wood and leaves and other bits from the Red Forest, sometimes it's a clear face mask and sometimes it's that of an animal. It's unclear why or how you get the mask you get. The followers refuse to give any answer except "if you walk deep into the woods, you better have a mask nearby. Or it might make assumptions."
Death and birth
Upon death, the follower's body is put upon a sled made from branches and leaves, their face is placed so that it watches the sky as the funeral progression pulls the sled through the forest, on their chest rests their mask who in normal circumstances hid their identity during the rites. In death, you are known.
